The idea of a new passenger port construction in the Western part of the Vasilyevskiy Island emerged in 2002 even though the city had had the need for the port long before. Until 2008 neither St. Petersburg nor Russia had a dedicated marine passenger port corresponding to international standards. Now when the cruise industry is on the rise, a need for a modern passenger cruise and ferry complex is even more evident and its development comes timely.
Construction of the new Passenger Port of St. Petersburg is done on the basis of the state-private partnership. Federal investments are allocated for renovation of the Petrovsky channel, and dredging of the access channel and port harbor, installation of the immigration and customs control points and navigation systems providing safety of navigation in the port harbour.
In accordance with the special purpose program “Implementation of Investment project of development of Marine Passenger Terminal on Vasiljevskiy Island, St. Petersburg”, upon completion of the construction the Marine Passenger Terminal will be transferred into the ownership of the city of St. Petersburg in accordance with the special purpose program “Implementation of the Investment project of development of Marine Passenger Terminal on Vasiljevskiy Island, St. Petersburg”
